We follow the Early Years Learning Framework — the national framework that guides early education across Australia — but we keep the jargon out of it. In practice, it means we plan around each child as an individual, follow their interests, and let them learn by doing. Every age learns differently, so we shape our approach room by room. A baby’s biggest job is feeling safe and bonding. A four-year-old’s is building the confidence and independence to walk into school ready.
Learning through play, in real terms
Play isn’t a break from learning. It is the learning. A toddler stacking blocks is testing balance, cause and effect, and patience. A three-year-old in the home corner is practising language, turn-taking and imagination. A four-year-old measuring sand into cups is doing early maths without knowing the word for it. Our educators set up the environment, then follow the child — offering the next challenge at the moment they’re ready for it.
The Early Years Learning Framework, simply
The EYLF is built around children developing a strong sense of:
Identity
knowing who they are and feeling secure
Connection
belonging to a group and a community
Wellbeing
being healthy, confident and resilient
Confident learning
curiosity, problem-solving and persistence
Communication
language, listening and expressing ideas
We plan every room around these, and we document
how your child is tracking against them.
How we share your child's progress
Your child’s learning is documented through portfolios, planning, and the OWNA app — so you can see what they’re working on and how they’re growing, without waiting for a parent-teacher night. We plan in partnership with families, because you know your child better than anyone.
